Husain AL MUSALLAM, FINA President meets the 20th FINA World Championship and World Masters Champion
Husain AL MUSALLAM, who was elected as the new FINA President of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in June in Doha, returned to the city on Friday for a coordination meeting with local organizers and to observe the GCC Aquatics Championships.
FINA President met with Qatar Swimming Association President and FINA Bureau Member Mr. Khaleel AL JABIR along with Mr Taha AL-KISHRY FINA Bureau member and Oman Olympic Committee Secretary General and others at the Hamad Aquatic Centre, where the Championships Master Plan was presented and discussed.
At the conclusion of the meeting FINA President stated “Doha has all the facilities to deliver the 2023 FINA World Championships and World Masters as the best-ever in history. Doha has the experience to host this mega event. Though, we need to coordinate and intensify our collaboration and move forward in a fast pace”.
As for the ongoing GCC Aquatics Championship, Husain AL MUSALLAM mentioned “It’s great to see children from all Gulf nations, from the age of 11 to 24, competing in events and forge new friendships. This is a significant competition to have as it’s happening after a long break due to the pandemic. The pandemic had affected swimmers’ performance. It’s understandable why there’re not many Gulf records being broken. I hope this competition will act as a starting point for different swimming federations to move ahead in the coming months” he concluded.
