Doha is known for its hospitality, stunning infrastructure and most importantly, the Qatari capital is famous for hosting the top-notch sports events. The cosmopolitan city – located on the coast of the Persian gulf in the east of the country – is home to over 2 million people from more than 150 nationalities. In the past few decade, Doha has become an integral part of sports calendar of different world federations. The passion for sports in Qatar – the FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts – comes from the top leadership. His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is a member of the International Olympic Committee, understands the importance of sport in building a healthy and cohesive society. The unlimited support for promotion of sports by His Highness the Amir has made the country an important part of the global sports community. Doha – the 2006 Asian Games host city – has been hosting many major global and continental sports events since 2000. The Qatar capital will also host the 2030 Asian Games. When it comes to organizing the major swimming competitions, Doha has earned the status as one of the top venues for blue riband FINA events. Athletes from all around the world rate Doha as their favorite venue because of the best hospitality and organization by the Qatar Swimming Association.

This year, Doha will host the FINA Swimming World Cup for the 10th time. The city has hosted several FINA Open Water meets at Doha’s iconic Corniche and the stunning Katara Beach. After the Swimming World Cup, Doha will prepare to host the 2023 FINA World Championships, the pinnacle event of the aquatics calendar. Doha Corniche, National Museum of Qatar, Souq Waqif, Katara Cultural Village, The Pearl – Qatar and Aspire Park are top sights for tourists in the city in addition to state-of-the-art FIFA World Cup 2022 Stadiums. Tourists can commute to places comfortably through the Doha Metro – a rapid transit system in the city, which has been operational since 2019.
